The One Minute Mother

Hello, and welcome to Love Mama! My name is Jenn, and I am the proud mama to my 5 year old son Tristan, and my soon-to-be husbands 8 year old daughter Bailey. I began this blog with them in mind, to celebrate all the joys and wonders of children, and raising them. I actually just finished a book titled "The One Minute Mother" by Spencer Johnson, M.D., which as it goes, was my inspiration for Love Mama, and will be the focus of my very first post!

A neighbour of mine, also a mother, had been singing the praises of The One Minute Mother, and as an avid reader of all kinds of literature, I asked to borrow it. I had it finished in under an hour while the kids were playing in the pool, and though it is short ( 108 pages, not including the acknowledgments), the story style format is inspirational to say the least. The book details The One Minute Mother's 3 secrets to raising respectful, responsible, and happy children: One Minute Goals, One Minute Praisings, and One Minute Reprimands. The core focus of the book is to always ensure your children believe in themselves, and are aware that you believe in and support them as well, through good communication. Rather than detail everything discussed in the book, I'll post a few of my favorite quotes.

"Children who like themselves like to behave themselves."

"I help my children reach their full potential. I catch them doing something right."

I definitely recommend seeking out this book, reading it, and passing it along to another mother in your life! I personally am going to start following the advice of The One Minute Mother, and see what results may come! If you have read The One Minute Mother, what did you think?
