I managed to get some sleep last night, hooray! When Mike came home from work he took the kids out so that I could have some peace and quiet, he's so good to me. I didn't manage to sleep during that time though, since we live on a pretty noisy road, and I was too hot to really sink into a deep sleep. I think the problem might be that it is way too hot in our bedroom. Literally, our bedroom is a sauna. We have no central air, and the rest of the house is fine, but our bedroom gets sun pretty well all day. We have two fans running on us at all times when we are laying in bed, a ceiling fan, and one pointed at us from the end of the bed. It doesn't make much of a difference, but those couple degrees keep me from going insane.
I'm still pretty tired and irritable though. My body just can't function on less than 9 hours a night. An example: This morning in the shower I was shaving my legs, and somehow managed to slice my shin open. I'm not talking about a little nick either, it is a 2 inch long cut. I have also managed to stub my toe, and trip up the stairs. Go Jenn!
Our house needs a bath badly but I just can't get motivated. Also, at some point today, I have to start lugging up all the boxes for the garage sale we are throwing this weekend. All the money we make is going towards season passes for Marineland, and if we have enough, the zoo as well. The whole family is helping, and I'm thinking of setting Bailey and Tristan up with their very own little table of small toys and knick knacks priced at 10 and 25 cents so they can really get involved.
Also coming up soon: Our backyard project. We are creating an outdoor living space, and I'm so excited! Our current set up features two decks and two patios, and no real flow between. Our plan is to build a second level to the deck coming from our back door, which will feature an outdoor living room and kitchen, and our hot tub. Here are some pictures I've been looking at for inspiration.
I am so in love with the fresh colours in the last picture. And also... This means shopping! That will be the main focus for me, new furniture, colours, accents... I can't wait! I've been the one in charge of redecorating our house thus far. I don't have any good pictures of many rooms, but here is the living room, before me, and after :)
So boring and blah! Please note, it is only messy because I was preparing to paint! The green and brown pillows on the couch were a new purchase for the new living room, which turned out like this...
Much better!
Just for fun, here is one of our bedroom before we finished it. The walls were previously orange. The picture isn't true to colour, but they are now a soft blue-grey. The window wall is not finished in this picture, but we put up gorgeous blue-grey and silver damask wallpaper, as well as some funky mirrors and candleholders. We are candle junkies!
I plan on purchasing some new, sheer white drapes for the windows. Still looking for the perfect set!
Of course, I'll be getting my hands dirty too, and helping with the build. Mike has taught me a lot about home renovations, and I'm sure there will be a lot more learning and practicing to come, since we are searching for a new (bigger) home! I am hoping for a nice, big place that we can fix up and make our own, with a loft to convert into a library/reading room with big bookcases and a comfy chair by a window for reading, and a nice big master bedroom with an ensuite. I am searching for a vintage vanity and chair that I can refinish and reupholster, and have somewhere pretty to sit and do my makeup. An extra room that I could convert into the dream playroom for the kids would be a nice bonus too!
Do you have any future plans for home renovation?
